Mt Sanqingshan' successful inscription on UNESCO's World Natural Heritage List

Mt Sanqingshan' successful inscription on UNESCO's World Natural Heritage List.

In the morning of July 6th, Quebec's local time, the exciting news came that Mt Sanqingshan was finally inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List during the 32nd session of World Heritage in Quebec, Canada. It has become the seventh World Natural Heritage Site in China, while the first one in Jiangxi Province by now. This proves a great success of Mt Sanqingshan’s nomination work since 2005.

At the session, the chairman of World Heritage Committee read out the resolution of the Heritage Committee that Mount Sanqingshan National Park displays a unique array of forested, fantastically shaped granite pillars and peaks concentrated in a relatively small area. Mount Sanqingshan's remarkable granite rock formations combine with diverse forest, near and distant vistas, and striking meteorological effects to create a landscape of exceptional landscape quality. The park boundaries are appropriately drawn to protect the naturalness of the landscape and the areas required to maintain the scenic qualities of the property. Considering its loyalty to meet the requirements of World Heritage, the State Parties of World Heritage Committee unanimously agree to include Mt Sanqingshan Natural Park on the World Heritage List.

World Heritage is the legacy including natural landscapes or cultural relics considered to be of outstanding universal value to humanity identified by UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee. What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is in its uniqueness as a property, plus the fierce competition and complicated procedure, successful inscription on World Heritage List is regarded as such a high honor like to be the top of Pyramid.

Mt Sanqingshan Natural Park's nomination work has gained support from Party Committees, Governments at all levels and even the masses, and all of these contribute to the great success of the work.

All the staff in Mt Sanqingshan have put much effort to the nomination work. In January, 2007, Mt Sanqingshan beat the other 160 National Parks of China to be the only one eligible for the nomination of UNESCO World Natural Heritage. Later on, a total of 300,000,000 RMB has been invested to environment rehabilitation around the 756 square km of the nominated property, including dismantlement of those buildings inconsistent with the surrounding environment which covers an area of up to 35,280 square meters, transformation of 200,000 square meters' community housing, newly building Heritage Exhibition Center and 20 monitoring stations, improvement of the length of 36km walking trail and 1000 tourist facilities. In October, the UNESCO evaluator was incredibly overwhelmed by the OUV of Mt Sanqingshan and the high protection and management level here and gave high opinion on that after evaluation. Later on, plus the strong recommendation of IUCN expert committee, Mt Sanqingshan was finally listed as one of UNESCO World Natural Heritage.

The successful inscription on World Natural Heritage List not only gains international recognition of Mt Sanqingshan's OUV and its integrity, but also brings a great honor to Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province and even the whole nation. What's more, Mt Sanqingshan will be scientifically guided and strictly supervised by UNESCO and World Heritage Committee, which guarantees the technical assistance and professional training in the future in here.
