
An Eastern China Douglas Fir in Mount Sanqingshan in East China's Jiangxi Province,which is 24meters high and 1meter in diameter at breast height ,has been found to be the largest one of its kind in the mountain.
The Eastern China Douglas Fir is peculiar to China and belongs to the second-grade State protection plants.It usually thrives in hills and valleys between 600 to 1,500 meters in altitude.
As one of the most typical plants of East Asia and North America,the Eastern China Douglas Fir is of great value to research in geology,paleogeography and paleospecies,while providing a scientific testament to phylogeny.
Experts believe the fir, as evidence of the region's biodiversity,will add weight to Mount Sanqingshan nomimation as a world natural heritage site.
