Situated in the north of Jiangxi Province, at 115°52'-116°08E'29°26-29°41'N, it occupies an area of 302 square Kilometers, The Great Hang Yang Peak, the highest peak of the mountain, is 1,474 meters high(above sea level).


On December 6,1996, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural' Landscape in the World Heritage List and gave the following remarks; "with its peculiar style in historic remains, which is melted with remarkable natural beauty, Mt Lushan has formed a highly- aesthetically-valued cultural view closely relevant to the sprit of the Chinese people and their cultural life"


The mountain boasts in its mighty peaks. Roaring waterfalls. Mysterious cloudsand mists. Philosophical religions. An ancient academy, numerous remains of ice age and many western-styled villas. It was among the first Key Scenic Districts of China and was one of the districts bestowed the titles "forty Best Scenic Districts of China" National Exemplary Q-villized, scenic and Historic Interest District", "National Geopark of China", "AAAA-rated Tourism District" and etc.


Sandie Spring

It lies below Wulao Feng. It drops through three craggy tiers with a fall of 155 meters (about 509 feet). The upper part is like snow falling down to the pond; the middle reach wanders and twists with splashing sprays dancing in the air; while the lower level resembles a jade dragon running in the pond. This is considered to be the best of the Lushan waterfalls. It is said that you are not a true visitor here if you miss Sandie Spring. However, it was not discovered until the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) due to its hidden position in a deep gully.


Wulaofeng Peak
 
Wulaofeng Peak. 1,358m above sea level. stands in the southeast part of the mountain by Poyang Lake. The side facing the lake is a huge perilous precipice. Standing on the summit of the peak. one may overlook the rolling ridges of the mountain and the vast water of Poyang Lake or enjoy the wonderful scene of the sunrise and the seas of clouds.


Hanpokou
 
Hanpokou is a peak 1,210m above sea level. situated in the middle section of Hanpoling Ridge in the southeast part of Mount Lushan. with Wulaofeng Peak on the left and Jiuqifeng on the right. Hanpoling Ridge winds forward in the middle forming a valley like a giant mouth to swallow Poyang Lake and that is what "hanpokou" means (in Chinese the word means to swallow Poyang Lake). One the top of Hanpokou one may enjoy the scenes of both the mountain and lake as well as the beautiful view of the sunrise.


Gu Ling

Gu Ling, located in the center of Lushan, is 1,164 meters (about 3,819 feet) above sea level with mountains on three sides and the valley on the other. The original name of Gu Ling was Guniu Ling, as it looks like a bull. Gu Ling Street is 1,167 meters (about 3,829 feet) long and it has a variety of shops, hotels, restaurants, bookshops, bars, coffee houses and dance halls that together form a town high in the sky. The Center Park in Gu Ling was built in 1954. After several reconstructions it now covers 10,000 square meters (about 11,960 square yards). In the park there is a large half moon shaped parterre in which stands a great stone bull that is the symbol of Gu Ling. He is two meters (about seven feet) in height and four meters (about 13 feet) in length. The base of the bull bears character 'Gu Ling'. Meandering pathways, fragrant flowers, flourishing trees and a pavilion all add to lively atmosphere of this delightful place.

 

In addition to hundreds of natural tourism sights, the Lushan Mountain also has over 200 newly-discovered geological remains of scientific importance. Include in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1996.
